01 — Overview

Special surface finishes are applied to flexible packaging after printing and lamination to add tactile texture, visual contrast and premium shelf appeal. Tansox applies six special finishes in-house at Quanzhou — soft touch, matte lamination, spot UV, hot stamp, 3D emboss and aluminized — in full or spot coverage, allowing brand owners to create tactile contrast, metallic accents and premium shelf presence on flexible packaging formats without outsourcing to a third-party finishing converter.

02 — How It Works

Four stages, one finish application run.

From finish specification to inspected, finished packaging — every order runs through the same four-stage workflow at Quanzhou.

Finish Specification
STEP 01

Finish Specification

Finish type, coverage (full or spot), substrate compatibility and structural requirements are confirmed at the design stage. Artwork is checked for registration requirements if spot finish is selected.

Surface Preparation
STEP 02

Surface Preparation

The printed and laminated substrate surface is prepared for finish adhesion — corona treatment, cleaning or primer application as required by the finish type and substrate.

Finish Application
STEP 03

Finish Application

The selected finish is applied in-line: coating, lamination, UV curing or foil stamping as appropriate. Full-coverage finishes run roll-to-roll; spot finishes use registered tooling for accurate placement.

Inspection & Approval
STEP 04

Inspection & Approval

Finished packaging is inspected for finish coverage uniformity, adhesion, registration and visual quality under standard lighting conditions. Approval samples are produced before the full production run.

Tactile matte coating applied over the print surface. Reduces gloss, increases grip, enhances premium shelf perception. Available in full coverage.
  • Spot UV
High-gloss UV varnish applied in registered spot areas over a matte base — creates visual and tactile contrast on selective design elements.
  • Hot Stamp / 3D Emboss
Metallic foil stamping and embossed relief pattern applied to selected design areas. Tooling required — amortised over the run.
  • Aluminized
Metallic aluminized appearance across the full substrate surface — high-barrier or decorative metallised film options available.
  • Minimum Order
Confirm with sales — tooling costs for spot finishes (hot stamp, 3D emboss) apply per finish area and shape.
05 — Suitable Markets

Premium finishes for hygiene, health and personal care.

Tansox special surface finishes ship to baby care, feminine hygiene, wet wipes and medical brands seeking premium packaging shelf presence without outsourcing to a separate finishing supplier.

06 — Quality & Certifications

Finish quality inspected before approval, every run.

Five quality checkpoints applied to every special finish order:

  • Pre-Production Approval
Finish samples produced and approved by the buyer before any production run starts. Approval record held on file.
  • Adhesion Testing
Finish adhesion tested by tape test per lot — failure triggers hold and root cause investigation before run continues.
  • Visual Inspection
Finish coverage uniformity, registration accuracy and cosmetic quality inspected under standard lighting at the finish station and at final packing.
  • Certification
EACC Quality Management Certified — Cert No. 11423Q46251R0M, valid until 2028.
  • Substrate Compatibility
Each finish is confirmed against the laminate structure and print ink system at the design stage to prevent delamination and adhesion failure in the field.

08 — Frequently Asked

Questions buyers ask before quote.

Soft touch is a tactile coating that creates a velvety surface feel with a silky, low-gloss appearance — it reduces gloss and adds a distinctive hand-feel that differentiates premium packaging on shelf. Matte lamination is a matte film bonded over the print surface, reducing gloss but without the same tactile texture as soft touch. Both are available in full coverage at Tansox.

Yes — combining soft touch (or matte) as a full-coverage base with registered spot UV is one of the most popular premium finish combinations for hygiene and health packaging. The soft touch base creates a matte, velvety surface; the spot UV then adds high-gloss visual contrast on selective design elements such as logos, icons or pattern areas. Confirm the design intent with our sales team at artwork submission.

Yes — hot stamp and 3D emboss both require custom tooling (stamping die and emboss die respectively) cut to the specific shape and size of the finish area on the design. Tooling is a one-time cost amortised across the production run and is typically retained for repeat orders. The tooling cost and amortisation schedule are included in the initial quotation.
